Domaine de Ravanès – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Concentrated plum and red berry jam on the nose. Generous on the palate with ripe fruit, silky tannins and a long but fresh finish
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
At a glance
Already in conversion to organic farming, this wine is another fantastic Bordeaux-style blend from this award-winning domaine. The warmth and charm of Merlot balances perfectly with the structure and depth of fruit of Cebernet Sauvignon. A real gem!
How to drink it
It will benefit from a few minutes in a decanter or even just allowing it to breathe for a couple of minutes in your glass. Serve at cool room temperature with red meats, cheese, and other savory dishes.
45-year old vines are grown on rocky limestone-clay soil. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, then fully de-stemmed and fermented with twice-daily pumping-over. Minimum 3 weeks maceration – longer depending on the year. Only free-run juice is used for the final blend. 16 months ageing in tank before bottling.
The story behind the wine
In the family for 3 generations, the Domaine de Ravanès estate has been producing wine since the Roman era. Winemaker Marc Benin has built the domain’s reputation on his Bordeaux-style red wines and this wine reflects the reasons for his success. Respect for the environment has always been a part of the domain’s philosophy, reflected by the move to organic farming in 2010.
The region – Coteaux du Murviel
Located within the Hérault department, which forms a vast amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean, the Coteaux de Murviel sits on the banks of the Orb River. Its Mediterranean climate is ideal for viticulture with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Cooling breezes off the sea and river help preserve freshness in the wines while maintaining the structure of the tannins.
