Château de la Viaudière – Sauvignon Blanc
Round in the mouth yet lively and refreshing. Very aromatic with intense pineapple and litchi flavors.
At a glance
If you like the restrained minerality in the Old World but relish the robust, exotic fruits that the New World offers, this wine is for you! Hand-harvested, gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and some time on lees provide roundness and volume in the mouth without losing the delicate and vivacious nature of the wine.
How to drink it
This aromatic delight is great as an aperitif on its own but also pairs nicely with seafood (especially salmon), shellfish, and other white meats. Mild goat cheese is an equally good match. Serve chilled.
The story behind the wine
Château de la Viaudière is the ancestral home of the Gelineau family, where wine has been lovingly created for the past four centuries. One immediately gets a sense of home at Château de la Viaudière. Visitors are welcomed with open arms by the effervescent proprietors, Pierre-Antoine and his wife Agnès. It doesn’t take long to work out that there is something truly inspiring happening here, and it’s not just the award winning wine that they produce. Once a year, the wine production facility doubles as a dining room for a hundred people in support of local artists and artisans. A portion of their sales also goes to a local child cancer charity.
The region – Anjou, Loire Valley
Renowned for some of France’s finest wines during the Middle Ages, production in this region today covers all styles and colours. The sweet Coteaux du Layon wines enjoy the most notoriety but the quality of the area’s dry whites, rosés and reds is increasingly fine and appreciated.
