Château de la Viaudière
Family-owned & run for over 4 centuries
In the heart of the Coteaux du Layon, a comfortable distance from the tourist hordes visiting the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley, sits an undiscovered treasure. This is Chateau de la Viaudière, ancestral domain of the Gelineau family, who has been producing wine on the estate since the 16th century.
One immediately gets a sense of home at Château de la Viaudière. Aside from the bed and breakfast situated onsite, arriving visitors are ushered into the welcoming tasting room by the effervescent proprietors, Pierre-Antoine and his wife Agnès.
Pierre-Antoine is a talented winemaker who took over the family business in 1997, and has worked tirelessly to stamp his own style and finesse on his wines, which has resulted in numerous accolades.
Aside from producing great wines, Pierre-Antoine and Agnès are big supporters of the local community. Once a year, the vineyard is the site of a community lunch in support of local artists and artisans. In addition, a portion of wine sales is donated to a local child cancer charity.
